We’ve had the pleasure of photographing a number of times at both Hotel Covington and The Madison Event Center in Covington, Kentucky. Each of these venues have their unique spaces to work with and their “just across the river” status from Cincinnati is a convenient location. It’s perfect for couples that want to explore the Kentucky or Ohio sides of the river – or even both as we did on Jessica and Terrence’s wedding day.
When it comes to getting ready spaces, we love having a little extra spaceto work in and of course plenty of natural light. The suites at Hotel Covington are perfect for this. Decorated in a clean, modern style that doesn’t detract from our goals with your photography – but instead compliments nicely.
This kind of space and light lets us be creative without feeling like we have to be on top of everybody. There is also just enough room to get the bridal party involved too and have them be part of the background.
Important in a great space is being able to find a clean background when we don’t want any distractions. This is just a simple, very fast, spontaneous portrait – using the light from the suite’s large windows. Just enough clean space to isolate the bride.
Meanwhile, the dark tones in the groom’s room provide opportunities for moody black and white images using the generous window light.
…and again, the interior design works with you and not against you in this case. Every great getting ready space needs a handful of options for angles and backgrounds.
Just downstairs at Hotel Covington, you have a generous lobby, bar, restaurant and outdoor space. you can make use of. In this case we used it for Jessica and Terrence’s first look before moving out into the courtyard for group photos.
As mentioned, Covington is a great location with multiple opportunities for photos nearby. Since our couple is from Cincinnati, they wanted to have some time exploring a couple locations both in downtown Cincinnati and along the Ohio River in Covington. First up was the five minute drive over to Washington Park in Cincinnati’s Over The Rhine neighborhood for more photos of the bridal party and the bride and groom. Including a shot in front of the iconic Cincinnati Music Hall. The nearby Memorial Hall can also make an elegant, urban backdrop for a portrait.
It’s just a quick ride back across the river to grab some skyline backdrops before heading over the The Madison just a few blocks away.
